Private Medicals

Private medical assessments are sometimes required for work, sport, insurance or other administrative purposes. At Bondi Doctors, our GPs can assist with a range of private medicals, including pre-employment medicals and sports medical assessments.

Please note that some medical assessments, including certain visa, immigration, diving, aviation and commercial driving medicals, may need to be completed by an approved or accredited doctor. We recommend checking with the organisation requesting the medical to confirm whether a specific provider is required before booking your appointment.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICALS

A pre-employment medical is designed to assess your general health and fitness for a particular role. Depending on your employer’s requirements, this may include a medical history review, physical examination, completion of forms and any role-specific documentation.

In many cases, this can be completed in a single consultation. However, if your assessment requires additional testing, such as pathology, urine testing, imaging or other investigations, your GP may ask you to return for a follow up appointment once results are available.

SPORTS MEDICALS

Sports medicals may be required before participating in certain sporting activities, competitions, programs or events. Your GP will review the relevant forms, discuss your medical history and complete an appropriate assessment based on the requirements provided.

Please bring any forms or specific instructions with you to your appointment.

PRIVATE MEDICAL FEES

Private medical assessments are privately billed and do not attract a Medicare rebate.

Pre-employment and sports medical assessments start from $300 + GST, however fees may vary depending on the length, complexity and any additional documentation or testing requirements involved.

If a follow up appointment is required, standard appointment fees will apply.

Please check with your employer, organisation or sporting body to confirm whether they will reimburse the cost of your assessment.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

Forms or paperwork requiring completion

If you have any forms, paperwork or documentation that requires completion by your doctor, please upload these as part of your booking process by completing our online form here.

Providing this information in advance gives your doctor the opportunity to review the requirements before your appointment and ensure they are as prepared as possible for your assessment.

You may also need to bring:

  • Details of the assessment requirements provided by your employer, sporting organisation or other requesting body

  • Relevant medical history, reports or specialist letters, if applicable

  • Photo identification, if requested by your employer, organisation or insurer

MEDICAL ASSESSMENTS, REPORTS & INSURANCE FEES

Certain medical assessments, reports and administrative documentation are not covered by Medicare and attract private fees.

Private Medical Assessments

Private medical assessments, including pre-employment medicals and sports medicals, are privately billed and do not attract a Medicare rebate.

Fees generally start from $300 + GST, however costs may vary depending on the length, complexity and any additional documentation or testing requirements involved.

If additional testing is required and a follow up appointment is needed to complete your assessment, standard consultation fees will apply.

Payment is required at the time of the appointment. If your employer, sporting organisation or another third party has agreed to cover the cost, it is the patient's responsibility to arrange reimbursement directly with that organisation.

Insurance Reports & Medical Documentation

Medical reports and forms completed for insurance, legal or administrative purposes are generally not covered by Medicare, WorkCover or CTP schemes and attract a private fee.

This may include:

  • Income protection insurance reports

  • Life insurance reports

  • Superannuation or disability claims

  • Other private medico legal or administrative documentation

Fees vary depending on the time required and complexity of the report, but generally start from $150 + GST.

In some cases, your GP may require additional information or a further consultation before the report can be completed. Standard consultation fees may apply where a clinical review is required.

Workers Compensation

All workers compensation consultations must be paid in full by the patient at the conclusion of each appointment.

Once your claim has been accepted, you can submit your invoices to your employer or insurer for reimbursement.
